Lowering Barriers to Success

United Way of the West Shore places School Resource Advocates in schools to help remove barriers and address concerns that can stand in the way of student success. We address basic needs, healthcare, and provide community resources — allowing educators to focus on teaching while students are better supported to learn and reach their potential.

During the 2024/2025 fiscal year, United Way of the West Shore School Resource Advocates provided over 6,390 direct services to students and families.

The most requested services included:

  • Coordination of services between agencies, schools and employers

  • Coaching clients through an array of personal or school issues

  • Transportation

  • Housing

  • Utilities

We collaborate with Ludington Area Schools, Mason County Central, Gateway to Success Academy, West Shore Community College. The program is funded by our donors, the Pennies from Heaven Foundation, and the schools we serve.
